Piñata Fiesta: A Moment of Joy Between Friends
Project Overview
Piñata Fiesta was crafted and conceived at a Friends of Figma event, where a small team had one hour to design a project in Figma. Our challenge: create a moment of joy between a group of friends, whether they're in the same room or across the web. The result is a party prize draw that everyone watches on their own phone. Whack the alpaca piñata three times and a prize ball drops down a Plinko board to one lucky friend.
The Brief
The goal was to use Figma to create a complete project in one hour. It had to be a unique, fun experience that would delight a group of friends and give them a shared moment of happiness, in person or online. With a team that had just met and a clock running, we needed a concept that was simple to grasp, fun to watch and easy to share.

What we delivered:
- Concept and experience direction, from a one-hour Figma session
- Piñata character, color palette and sound design
- Custom icon set and prize illustrations
- Whack, crack and Plinko drop interactions
- A working, shareable web game at fiesta.hiveminds.io
From One Hour to a Working Game
HiveMinds organized and planned the session, providing experience direction and guidance so the team could move from idea to prototype within the hour. After the event, we expanded that Figma prototype into a working game. Hosts can create an account, save up to five games and share each one by link, so friends can join and watch the draw live from wherever they are.
How It Plays
Add your crew. Up to 12 names are "crumpled" into the piñata as note slips, or friends add themselves from the share link.
Load the prizes. Pick from the Fiesta Pack (coffee, ice cream, tickets and more) or type your own.
Whack & drop. Three whacks crack the piñata and drop a prize ball down the Plinko board to one winner. Winners sit out later rounds, so everyone gets their own treat.
Designed to Delight
The star of the show is a sugar-skull alpaca piñata, set against festive papel picado bunting and a warm, celebratory palette. Each whack lands with a sound and a visible crack, and the hit counter builds anticipation toward the third swing. Hand-drawn prize icons and notebook-paper name slips give the game a homemade party feel.

What even is a sport? For our next GenJam, we’re working with our friends at Echobend to throw you into the arena with nothing but your imagination and a handful of weird, seemingly unrelated objects. Your mission: invent a new sport from scratch—and show us how it works. Think: a broom, a hoop, and a golden ball with wings. Never heard of Quidditch? Exactly.
